The coolest little wine festival in the country went off.

North Canterbury kai is always in abundance at the festival.
Stalls from local producers, chefs and restaurants are featured every year to offer delicious, fresh and seasonal food that go wonderfully with the selection of wines. Check out the array of sensational flavours for you in 2019 and whet your appetite.

The Paella Fella
Authentic Spanish paella served in three varieties, all gluten free, healthy and fit for a king.
Bringing their famous Korean Cupbob to spice up the festival! Succulent marinaded BBQ meat, crunchy veg and rice topped with their signature sauce.

The hottest bakers in town are tag teaming it again, with a variety of cakes showcasing seasonal produce & locally made ingredients, as well as bagel sandwiches hot off the grill & freshly filled donuts.
Japanese Karaage Chicken, sweet soy glazed pork belly bao's and delightful dumplings.
New Zealand's favourite award winning German style Bratwursts, served on a fresh baguette with onion, sauerkraut and a range of condiments. Oh, ja!
Pierogi are European dumplings which are both savoury and sweet. Served up with interesting and reimagined flavours!
The Vagabond Chefs
48hr braised beef loaded fries, crispy tofu Vagabowls, Korean style chicken bao's and much much more!
Dreamy cheese platters for sharing with friends or enjoying alone - the perfect pairing with the regional wines.
Seasonally inspired dishes crafted from the finest, locally sourced produce. Beautifully crafted and exciting for the palate - duck, octopus and vegetarian dishes will be on offer.
Lovat Downs Venison
Venison pita pockets, burgers, sausages and the 'tender bambi sammie' - all made with diced venison, onion & plum sauce.
Classic and plant based ice cream made with just a handful of fresh ingredients, perfected by nature... and sometimes even a little wine.
Barrys Bay and Charing Cross Cheese
Cheese crafted from cow’s milk and sheep’s milk. Local, handcrafted, and totally delicious.
The Whitebait People
Serving up a range of quintessential Kiwi grub, including Westcoast whitebait patties, pan-fried salads or omelettes and pāua patties.
G C Barbeque
With a smoker and a wood grill, expect delicious smoked pork pretsels, smoked lamb and smoked salmon. All the smoky goodness.
Pic's Peanut Butter
Pic’s will be returning again this year to share a new product - their boysenberry jelly!
Smoking meat is a way of life for Smokey Ts. The process takes time but it’s worth the payoff. Meat slow cooked slow and sweet on the BBQ, served up with a side of beer. Catch a wiff of this cooking on the grill, and you won’t be going anywhere.
The Whole Hog Food Truck
Locally sourced free-farmed tasty pork treats. Fresh from the field, and completely delicious.
Kung Fu Dumplings
Kathmandu style momo dumplings with a bit of kapow! Funky rooster, buffalow style beef and vegan kale and kumara.
Homemade pancakes served with homemade toppings and sauces. Nothing artificial at all!
Plant based street food, serving up vegan meats and cheeses. Totally dedicated to delicious vegan fare.
Classic British style fish & chips, served with all the trimmings. Think mushy peas, curry sauce, pickled onions - it’s good innit? Line up for the battered halloumi, and loaded vegan fries for a twist on the traditional.

Woodfire pizzas, and Brew Moon craft beers. Talk about a match made in heaven.
Jesse Mulligan | Black Estate
Jesse Mulligan, host of Three’s hit show The Project, RNZ National presenter and fervent foodie will be hitting the festival this year – joining forces with Black Estate to present a seasonal taster of local fare grilled over coals.
All money raised goes to a great cause. Living rural isn’t all festivals. The Rural Support Trust are there to pick up the pieces after fire, flood and quakes, and when things get dark and difficult.
Visit the Black Estate tent from 10.30am, grab a $10 plate, have a chat with Jesse – and support the incredible work Rural Support do for the North Canterbury community!
The North Canterbury wine region covers vineyards from Banks Peninsula through to Cheviot, including Waipara and Waikari. Well known for its aromatics and Pinot Noir it is fast becoming recognised as a region capable of producing very high quality wines.

Aroha drinks are made lovingly using the finest natural ingredients, meaning they’re full of goodness and taste great to boot. Winning.
The Waipara School will be keeping you hydrated with bottled water and sodas at this year's festival, with all proceeds going back to Waipara School.
Supreme filter station hydrating you with chilled coffee made from Ethiopian sede beans with naughty sweetened milk.
The Allpress coffee cart is parking up under the oaks to serve up their specialist coffee - including a refreshing cold brew.
The Kvas Company
Kvas made the traditional Slavic way.
Brewed by a lactic fermentation process using a starter made
from rye bread flavoured with coriander seed and sultanas.

New to the festival this year is Long Lunch. Seated at long tables under the oaks, you’ll be served four small courses of seasonal delights from the finest local chefs paired with four North Canterbury wine tastes. INATI are cooking the entrée, festival fav Jonny Schwass is grillin’ up goodness for the main, served with tasty cheese from Barrys Bay, and finishing with delectable ice cream from Utopia Ice. The ultimate laidback way to experience the flavours of the region.

New from the nice folk at Rekindle, meet the makers and try your hand at
artisan skills with hands-on workshops.
11.30am Spoon carving: $20pp
Come along and learn how to make a spoon! You’ll learn basic whittling techniques with straight and curved whittling knives, and learn all about the ancient traditions of greenwood-working. Please note: This workshop is only suited to those who can work safely without direct supervision with very sharp hand tools. This class is not for children.
1:00pm String and rope making with ti kōuka leaves: $20pp
Learn how to use tī kōuka / cabbage tree leaves to make a strong and beautiful twine. Rekindle’s most popular workshop, this technique for making string and rope is simple and can be used with many different materials.
2:30pm Doll making with ti kōuka leaves. Perfect for older kids: $10pp
Tī kōuka leaves are such a multi-purpose material. This fun hour-long workshop will teach you how to make a simple doll with cabbage tree leaves, similar to a corn dolly. This session is perfect for older children.

Pockets of music feature in every nook of Glenmark Domain's picturesque setting. The 2019 festival line up includes a Musicians' Corner with jazz, folk, and singer/songwriter vibes including The Goldonies, Holly Arrowsmith and more.
At the other end of the park check out the laid back 'Beats and Tunes' area featuring Plantgril, Sheldon Williams and other featured DJs spinning Sunday tunes all day long. Oh yeah!
On the STAGE…
The Goldonies have been winning over audiences

A typical set list will usually find the boys tipping their hat
to the three B’s of rock ‘n’ roll
– Buddy, Berry and Beatles, as well as numerous other
classics from the 1950’s and 60’s.
Josh Holmes, Amiria Grenell & Bryony Matthews join musical forces to create Your Indigo, combining Holmes' talented ear and skill for ambient electronica alongside Grenell and Matthews' talent for lyrical melody and harmonies. The result is an Alt Folk, Electronic sound with a pinch of pop. Mixing an enchanting collection of sounds, this new band are bringing a beautiful, fresh, new sound to the stages of Aotearoa.
Alice Tanner’s eclectic influences meld her classical background in cello and piano with jazz singing, and a varied career performing her own originals and covers for every occasion. Inspired by the greats of jazz, her soulful sounds and self-described awkward banter (it’s adorbs) make for a lush laid back listening experience.
Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico and raised in the mountains of Southern New Zealand, Holly Arrowsmith is on the rise locally and internationally, a strong player in New Zealand’s folk revivalist movement. Compared to the likes of Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake, Holly touches upon the earnest matters of life, wrapped in metaphors of nature and the soothing mountain environment that raised her.

Singer songwriter Sarena Close brings her mellow jams accompanied with acoustic vibes under the oaks to the North Canterbury Wine & Food Festival for another year, packed with sweet tunes and grooves.

Gourmet tea blends from Noble & Savage Tea Merchants will be paired with homemade baking from Glenmark Parish in a fabulous fundraising for the local church. Expect vintage linens, floral china and a slice of slow living.

Kids come free, and this year we’ve loads to keep them chipper. Not one, but two bouncy castles, pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, ice creams, and a bunch of cool crafts to check out in the makers tent.
North Canterbury Wine & Food Festival is set under the picturesque oak trees of the Glenmark Domain (corner of Church Road & Glenmark Drive), Waipara Valley, North Canterbury - just 45 minutes drive north of Christchurch.
The festival begins at 10.30am and finishes 5.00pm.
Take SH1 to Amberley
Continue north on SH1 a further 10 minutes
Turn left at the Hamner Springs turn off (Waipara Flat Rd)
Follow this by a quick right into Glenmark Drive
Follow Glenmark Drive through the Waipara Township
Glenmark Domain is 300m north of Waipara Township on your right, on the corner of Glenmark Dr & Church Rd
