The Festival

Set under the oaks in Glenmark Domain is the coolest little wine festival in the country.

North Canterbury Wine & Food Festival 2017 was one to remember.

Over 2,000 of you fine folk hit the road and came out to New Zealand’s most-loved wine and food region for a celebration like no other. You supported the local harvesters, chilled out in our pockets of entertainment, immersed yourselves in conversations with other lovers of local produce and fell completely in love with everything North Canterbury has to offer.

North Canterbury food is always in abundance at the festival.

Stalls from local producers, chefs and restaurants are featured every year to offer delicious, fresh and seasonal food that go wonderfully with the selection of wines.

The Paella Fella
Authentic Spanish paella served in three varieties, all gluten free, healthy and fit for a king.

Bearlion Foods

North Canterbury is just 40 minutes north of Christchurch and is fast establishing itself as one of the premium wine producing regions of New Zealand, particularly in Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling.  According to Bob Campbell, the region is ”one of the unsung heroes of the wine industry”.

The region has 2 main sub-regions, Waipara Valley & Waikari.
There are also a few vineyards 20 minutes north of the Waipara Valley close to Cheviot.

ConversatioNZ is a movement initiated by chefs and people in the food industry with the aim of highlighting the quality and vast array of edible resources available in New Zealand.

Pockets of music feature in every nook of Glenmark Domain's picturesque setting. The 2018 festival line up includes a Musicians' Corner with jazz, folk, and singer/songwriter vibes including Chris William, Bryony, The Goldonies, The Swan Sisters and more.

We also like to chuck in a couple of more bangers on the other end of the park with the laid back 'Beats and Tunes' area featuring Simon Kong and other featured DJs spinning Sunday tunes all day long. Oh yeah!

Thrillingly the rolling, rambling, spirit raising atmospheres they project in their
live shows have endeared them to the hearts of many. It’s obvious they care
about the audience as much as the songs.

Chris William.jpg

Chris William

Chris William wears his heart on his sleeve. He blends his love of jazz, soul and electronica into a swirl of synthesisers, thumping drum machines and stirring vocal harmonies. His music is both ripe with emotion and tension – warped piano sounds collide with swampy guitar noise. He has self-released two lauded singles, and is currently recording an EP to be released mid 2017.

Bryony Matthews.jpg

Bryony Matthews

Picking up a guitar at 14, Bryony has been writing and performing,  shedding fears, gaining confidence and honing her skills, plus acquiring a collection of talented musicians to back her. Matthews writes unique, considered, lyrics-focused folk-pop offerings, with her band lending an upbeat ambiance to the songs.

Swan Sister 2.jpg

Swan Sisters

Amiria Grenell & Amy Grace sing heart filled songs.  They've been writing songs and stories together for many years.  Theirs is a delicate blend of music styles: alt. folk with beautiful harmonies, a touch of country, a bit of dreamy pop and a dash of swingin’ blues.  It encapsulates their friendship and love of storytelling.

The Goldonies.jpg

The Goldonies

The Goldonies have been winning over audiences with their mix of rock ‘n’ roll classics performed with high energy and humour in the skiffle band setting.  A typical set list will usually find the boys tipping their hats to the three B’s of rock ‘n’ roll – Buddy, Berry and Beatles, as well as numerous other classics from the 1950’s and 60’s.

The kids are always welcomed with open arms - and we've got lots to keep them chipper. The picnic areas and music can be enjoyed by all of the family, as well as bouncy castles, petting zoo, face painting, ice-creams, hilarious entertainment and everything else that makes being a kid the best.

Our Charity Partner

Donate To Māia health AND FLY
to the festival in style...

When purchasing your tickets to this year's festival online, we welcome you to add a few extra dollars as a donation to our charity partner, Māia Health Foundation – not only will you be making a difference, but you could be into win a pretty epic experience.

Anyone who makes a donation to Māia Health Foundation (big or small!) will go in
the draw to win a helicopter ride from Christchurch for you and a friend out to
this year's festival! We'll even chauffeur you back home at the end of the day.

All proceeds will go to one of Māia's key projects: an enhanced rooftop helipad
and clinical support unit on the new Christchurch Hospital – a cause
close to our hearts.

Any accidents that happen in our North Canterbury community - through farming, road accidents, or even in our homes - may require the services of this essential and often lifesaving service. Landing on the new Hospital rooftop (instead of the current helipad in Hagley Park!) will take 13 critical minutes off this journey.

So, let’s help Māia on their mission to take the new helipad from good - to great!

Here's a sneak peak of the new helipad you'll be helping to make a reality for our city...
