Thanks for a good time!

Gumboots, swanndris, and a whole lotta North Canterbury passion...

Well, how was that for one heck of a party under the oaks? We'd like to say one whoppin' thank you to those who made the North Canterbury Wine & Food Festival 2017 such a great day out. We don't know about you, but we were too distracted by the amazing local wines, crazy good food and catchy tunes to be put off by the few drops of rain.

Thanks to our sponsors, stallholders, entertainers, volunteers, and the enthusiastic crowd of over 2 000 of you fine folks, sporting your waterproof attire.

The Festival

Set under the oaks in Glenmark Domain is the coolest little wine festival in the country.

North Canterbury Wine & Food Festival 2017 was one to remember.

Over 2,000 of you fine folk hit the road and came out to New Zealand’s most-loved wine and food region for a celebration like no other. You supported the local harvesters, chilled out in our pockets of entertainment, immersed yourselves in conversations with other lovers of local produce and fell completely in love with everything North Canterbury has to offer.

North Canterbury food is always in abundance at the festival.

Stalls from local producers, regional and Christchurch chefs and restaurants are featured every year to offer delicious fresh, local food that you can match with your wines.

Tom Hishon - Orphans Kitchen
Tom is a North Canterbury born chef who now owns the award-winning Auckland restaurant, Orphans Kitchen. He'll be returning to his roots to cook foraged venison pies with his mother, sister and brother. The venison is sourced locally from Tom's sister's North Canterbury farm.

A plant based take on the traditional hot dog...
Fresh bread bun, filled with a brined, smoked, then slow roasted crumbed and fried carrot.

Allpress Coffee

The Allpress coffee cart is parking up under the oaks to serve up their specialist coffee - including a refreshing cold brew.

Karma Cola

A range of organic craft sodas from 'The Worlds Fairest Fairtrader'.

All sober drivers will receive a complimentary Karma Cola beverage for taking one for the team.

Qantas Water Warriors

Last year we were treated to a stellar 35 degree day at the festival - and we're pretty sure the weather gods are staying on our side for 2017.

To stay uber hydrated, Qantas will be roaming around the festival with water backpacks to refill your festival glasses with refreshing H2O throughout the day.

Waipara School

The Waipara School will be keeping you hydrated with bottled water and sodas at this year's festival, with all proceeds going back to Waipara School.

North Canterbury is just 40 minutes north of Christchurch and is fast establishing itself as one of the premium wine producing regions of New Zealand, particularly in Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling.  According to Bob Campbell, the region is ”one of the unsung heroes of the wine industry”.

The region has 2 main sub-regions, Waipara Valley & Waikari.
There are also a few vineyards 20 minutes north of the Waipara Valley close to Cheviot.

For the last two years, Lincoln University have brought the ConversatioNZ tent to the 2017 festival, hosting discussions by duos made up of some of the best wine producers of the region, matched with chefs and food producers.

ConversatioNZ is a movement initiated by chefs and people in the food industry with the aim of highlighting the quality and vast array of edible resources available in New Zealand.

Pockets of music feature in every nook of Glenmark Domain's picturesque setting. The 2017 festival line up included a Musicians' Corner with jazz, folk, and singer/songwriter vibes including Flip Grater, The Goldonies, The Swan Sisters, Lil Chuck and more.

We also like to chuck in a couple of more bangers on the other end of the park with the laid back 'Beats and Tunes' area featuring Simon Kong and other featured DJs spinning Sunday tunes all day long. Oh yeah!

The kids are always welcomed with open arms - and we've got lots to keep them chipper. The picnic areas and music can be enjoyed by all of the family, as well as bouncy castles, pony rides, face painting, ice-creams, hilarious entertainment and everything else that makes being a kid the best.

Did you think we would leave our festival attendees without anything to say thanks for supporting the local land?

Thanks to our insanely generous lead partners, supporters, stallholders and other North Canterbury friends we went a bit mental with prize offerings this year (not that anyone's complaining).

Check out what was on offer...

The good sorts at Qantas believe in the value of travelling to quality destinations... Which is why this year, Qantas are running a charity raffle at the festival, raising funds for the North Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Fund to keep the beautiful region alive and the amazing local producers of Hurunui on their feet.

During the day of the festival, Qantas will be roaming around under the oaks selling $2 'Red Raffle Tickets'. Not only will 100% of your donations go towards helping out your North Canterbury friends, but each ticket will go in the draw to win one of three return flights for two to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, as well as a bunch of spot prizes throughout the day. Not bad, huh?

 1. Buy a $2 "Red Raffle Ticket" from the roaming Qantas crew at the festival

2. Listen to our festival town crier throughout the day as they announce fun spot prizes as well as the winners' of Qantas return flights across the ditch

3. If you're a lucky winner, take your ticket to the Qantas tent by the end of the day to redeem your prize ('Red Raffle' ticket holders must be onsite to redeem their prize by 4.30pm)

• 3 x $100 JR Duty Free Vouchers (given away individually)

• 3 x $50 JR Duty Free Vouchers(given away individually)

• 2 x Bottles of Ataahua Wine

• Magnum of Pegasus Bay Pinot Noir 2012

• 3 x Bottles of The Wine Maker's Wife

• A Cakes by Anna to the value of $60

• 1 x Bottle of The Third Man & 1 x Bottle of Muddy Water

When it comes to beautiful sights, Fendalton Eye Clinic just can't get enough - and
there's no denying Glenmark Domain is a wee photogenic nook in Waipara Valley.

Due to the abundant photo opportunities at the North Canterbury Wine & Food Festival,
we've decided to team up with our lead partners Fendalton Eye Clinic
to run a bit of an Instagram competition (complete with prizes, obviously).

It's really quite simple...

1. Take a beautiful shot throughout the day that showcases your
favourite moment at the festival (it could be a close up of delicious wine & food,
your picnic set up, the oak trees, your mates...)

2. Upload your best festival photo to Instagram, tag @fendaltoneyeclinic
and use the hashtag #NCWFFthroughmyeyes

3. Together with Fendalton Eye Clinic, we'll choose our favourite pic and
reward the photographer with 12 bottles of the finest North Canterbury wines
from the festival (winner must be 18 years and older)

Ready, set, hashtag!

Grab your grandmas crotched rug, a polka dot umbrella, fresh blooms and
everything else you can possibly think of to make your picnic set up the best
in the valley...

The festival team will have their eyes pealed across the day to spot the festival gang with
the most poppin' picnic ensemble and rewarding them with FREE FOOD VOUCHERS!

Just remember to leave your own wine & food at home. No offence, but our local stallholders will
most likely be serving you better stuff than what's in your fridge anyway.
